How to get a hold of owner of stolen iPad?

Bought a used ipad. Ended up being stolen. Called police but it was not listed as stolen and the number on ipad to contact owner is not working number. How to get ahold of the owner ipad locked

You can use Find my iPhone to track it down at https://icloud.com , but you will have to keep checking till the person connects to wifi. But in the case you have a passcode on the iPad, you have no luck.

EDIT: Sorry, I thought his iPad got stolen. ;)

He has the iPad with him. How, exactly, will "Find My iPhone" help? It won't show any of the previous owner's info.

OP, sorry this happened to you. The right thing to do is to turn it in to the police. Let them deal with it.

You might try Apple also, they may be able to contact the owner, IF they have registered their device. :)

If it is a cellular enabled iPad the carrier will be shown in the top left corner. You could try going to the carrier store if this is the case.

You can ask Siri from the lock screen "who owns this iphone" And IF the person set contact info you get it. :) But I guess you already did that? Anyways wanted to make sure people in general knew that for the next guy asking this. :)

Apple has said not to bring stolen or found devices to their stores. They say turn it in to the police.
