• After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.

How to encourage quality of posts on iMore?

My perception of the MobileNations being less due to the balance of use being focussed so far from iMore. There was MN roundup this week, and the hot thread for iMore was only 28,and that may have pushed me over the edge.

One 'hot thread' mention in our Community Update does not paint the whole picture. The fact of the matter is we have a passionate, growing group of volunteers here at iMore... and the membership is awesome. We've seen steady growth here in the iMore forums the past few months, and if we all work together some real good things are going to happen. It's on us to keep pushing forward, keep posting great stuff and welcoming new members to the fun... while the iMore forums aren't as busy as some of the other Mobile Nations forums YET... good things are coming.

He is of course referring to my post - Asked: Why do Apple Computers cost so much more than PCs? At the time you wrote the article (Community Update) James, there were 28 very good responses so even though there might have only been 28, The content of those posts were well worth reading what others opinions are and that is the main reason we work hard to place these posts for members to have something to talk about.

Also nobody here ever said that a member could not start his own post to get conversation going. Thank you. James is right. Good things are going to happen. :)

I think what is also being lost here is that each Mobile Nations site has its own culture, and attempts to change the culture by trying to make it like another often fails. Apple does not have a boatload of products, and the refresh is usually annually. Yet, iMore is swamped with threads and posts seeking advice prior to, during, and after a product launch, an iOS update, and even when a new jailbreak is available. Those of us who are considered "regulars" here go out of our way to help anyone seeking assistance. We love our Apple products and services, and we want everyone else who has the same products and uses the same services to enjoy them as much as we do. That is the culture here at iMore. Period. Now that members of Mobile Nations can venture into other sections using the same login credentials, many jump from site to site. Some seek information because they are looking to purchase a non-Apple product. It doesn't mean they've abandoned iMore or anything. They are merely using the Mobile Nations sites to their advantage. As for quality posts, if it helped at least one person, it's safe to assume the quality of it to that particular person was quite high. The rush to generate volume can sometime overshadow the quality that already exists. Volume does not automatically equate to success. Ask any business with a large volume of products that aren't being moved from the shelves in sales. Anyway, that's my 2 cents...:)
