I recently had the need for tethering, as I was switching ISPs, and I didn't schedule it very well so there ended up being a 6-day period where I had to rely on AT&T's 3G network for the Internet.
While I was mindful of the fact that I was tethering, I did not hold back either. 235MB file needed to install an application. No hesitation. Downloading tons of data worth of torrents, for example, no, I did not engage in that kind of (ab?)use. I did, however, sling my SlingBox to my laptop, and 30 minutes of that can quickly add up to several hundred megabytes if you have a decent connection.
On average, as an iPhone user, I run through 1-2GB a month of data, compared to what I used before on my BlackBerry Bold, which was a whopping average of less than 100MB!
So how much do you use? Please ONLY consider data that goes over your 3G connection, and NOT any other type, e.g. WiFi!
