How long can your home button be used?

I have my trusty old iPod 4 from 2010 that still has a perfectly functioning home button. On kind of a side note, many people (like kataran said) try to discredit Apple's products. Someone once told me that Apple places fault lines in the glass so that if dropped it will shatter instantly. Don't fall into the trap of rumors, they are for the most part always false

It does stop working for sure in certain cases. My mother was using my sisters iP4( hand me down ) and the home button had to be replaced. My brother in law also had to get his 3 or 4 year old iP4 home button replaced.
As scorpion667 mentioned, all switches have a finite number of clicks to it.

My original iphone has a slight problem where you have to press it quite hard for It to register but that might be because it hasn't been used for years :)
