How do you set to GSM only networks?

I can't seem to find the appropriate setting anywhere.

I'd like to set to GSM only because it's pretty much the only network coverage I get when I go on holiday and I don't want my phone wasting battery switching between GSM and WCDMA networks.

To my knowledge, there is no such setting unless it is a part of field test mode, but I don't recall seeing such a setting the last time I accessed that mode a while back.

If your phone can see multiple carriers it is allowed to use, you can go to Settings>> Carrier>> and flip the switch under 'Automatic' to off - and then a list of networks will appear, and you chose one.

It just let's me select carrier, not network type. I want to select 900/1800 mHz radio frequency. It's currently operating on 900/2100 mHz

That's not a user choice - the phone will use whatever frequency bands are in use by the carrier and are set by carrier settings in the phone.

Sorry, wait let me explain better. I'm only trying to change network type EG: LTE, 3G/HSDPA, 2G/EDGE.
Every single phone I have ever used with 3G has this. These screen shots are from a Samsung Galaxy S2 for example. this is the setting I'm looking for.

You can turn cellular data off or toggle LTE off but cannot toggle 3G off to go 2G only.
