How do I sync iPhone calendar & contacts via phone/web/3g?

i'm looking for an EASY and FREE way/app to sync my iphone calendar and contacts using the phone. i'm not sure what apps sync the phone's calendar/contacts directly to a web portal like google calendar, or tungle, or other. it seems like mobileme is the answer, but not if it costs money! and the sync with itunes takes too much effort and time... i'd like to just click an app on the phone, and BAM, it syncs the calendar and contacts so i can do it daily with no fuss or muss...

any suggestions? Thanks!

Setup your google access using the Exchange option in the settings (specific directions are available on google). It gives you access to calendar, contacts, and email via push over the airwaves.

so will that require anything diong on my laptop outlook/exchange also? i thought i read somewhere on initial setup for google calendars all items are deleted? i hope that's incorrect...thanks!
