How do I retrieve my missing iPhone Notes?

They have been on my iPhone for over a year. Suddenly, they are gone.

Are they associated with iCloud? If so, sign out of iCloud and then sign back in. Your notes should sync to the device if you haven't deleted them. If they are not associated with iCloud or any other cloud service, do you have a backup that you can restore from?
