AFAIK, your only option to recover access to the device is to wipe it and restore. You should always have a current backup for cases like this, but I guess that is not particularly useful information at this point.

Were you backing up to iCloud or computer at all? Syncing contacts to computer or iCloud? IF the answer to those is "no" - there's not much you can do.
