How do I record on the Apple iPad Air?

We are trying to record but the screen closes before the song is finished and we don't know how to see if it did record at all

Can you not go back into the recording app and play the recording to find out?

And if the above fails just change the screen off time in settings to never. Then change it back when you're done.
