How do I know when a text message has been read?

I have sent a message and it has been marked 'delivered'. How do I know if and when it read?

Unless the recipient has enabled the "Send Read Receipts" option in the Message settings (if you're using an iPhone), you will not be able to tell if the message has been read or not.
