Something's not right. Are you signed into your Microsoft account? Did you try a restart? Do you have latest version? My saying something's not right is because I have around 2 dozen iPads of different vintage used by our staff and the Office 365 apps work well.

Make sure you're signed in or quit then sign in again are usually the fixes I advise and I that usually does it.
