How do I get the clock to come back when the iPhone 4 is not in use?

Huh? The phone must be in use in order to see the clock. If the device is not in use, the screen will stop emitting an image of any kind after a short period of time. Having said that, can you not just tap on the home button to awaken the display and see the time? If I've misunderstood your post, my apologies, and you need to explain yourself a little better....
