How do I get a hard copy of a photo from my Mac?

I want to have a hard copy of a photo from my mac desktop. they end up grainy

I can't get a decent hard copy photo from my mac desktop. When I print one out on photo paper it looks very grainy

The grainyness of a print depends on the resolution of the source file and the capabilities of your printer... a low resolution file isn't going to print well...
