Create an iCloud AND an iTunes backup FIRST!
1. Disable the Find My iPhone feature.
2. Logout of EVERYTHING you're logged into on the device.
3. Go to Settings - General - Reset and then select "Erase All Contents and Settings".

First go to iCloud in Settings and toggle off "Find My iPhone". Then toggle off iMessage. Then go to Settings >General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Tap that and you're done.
