how do I delete email on my iPhone 4s so it won't come back?

I've tried to delete emails on my iPhone 4s but they won't delete. I now have 225 messages in my email.

Try signing out of your email account in Settings. Then sign back in. If you still have issues, try deleting the emails on your email account online.
