How do I delete email from my iPhone

My phone shows 526 emails and when I open my email, there is nothing to delete. for example...my inbox shows 400 mail but when I click to read, there is none. I went to gmail and deleted all mail and still can't get rid of mail in my iPhone

Try this: open e-mail program, hit Mailboxes in the top-left, under ACCOUNTS select your e-mail account, and check to see if any folders have mail in them.
