How do I check for 'sent' mail?

I see no way of locating my sent mail on my phone. I see messages and reply etc. but no way of checking sent mail.

Do you have email set up in the Mail app? If so, go to the Mailboxes page. Just keep backing up.

If more than one email account, you can enable "all sent" in iOS 10.

As someone who uses a LOT of email accounts, "All Sent" is such a godsend...
