The best way would be to lock your iPad so no one other than you can use it. You can also filter out inappropriate content on your email client and YouTube.
You can also adjust Safari settings under Settings>Safari>Settings.

Covenant Eyes is a good browser for that. You can control what content is downloaded from iTunes and the App Store by going to settings>general>restrictions.
