How do I add a custom label to a contact?

I have a an iphone 6, there isn't an option to add a custom label for a contact other that a basis list. Is there another way to add a custom label.

When you go to that basic list, there should be an option to create custom labels.
Tap edit
Then tap a label


Tap "Add Custom Label".
