Turn in emoji in keyboard settings then you will have a circle world icon to the left of the keyboard

Are you referring to your phone as in messaging? If so go to settings and general and keyboards and add the emoji keyboard as Peligro indicated. If you mean a chat in the forum in you box where you typed this thread, YUou will see the icons for adding different smile icons.
