How difficult is it to replace a cracked iPad 3 screen on your own?

I've been visiting iPhone/iPad screen repair shops and they're all charging $100 or more to fix my iPad 3, and I think the pricing is ridiculous. It is a tablet from 2012; I don't think it should cost more than about $50 to fix. So that's why I have begun looking into DIY'ing it. If anyone could give me some tips and advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
