How can I tell if a friend is online or not on the LINE chat application?

I only use the LINE chat app with my husband and a couple of days ago, I saw a green dot next to his name. Yesterday, we were using it together and testing it while sitting next to each other, but while we were both in the application this time I did not see a green dot next to his name. What changed?
