Welcome to iMore! It depends on what kind of computer you're using. If you're on a MacBook you'll probably have to install the SSD and buy an external USB closure for your existing HDD. If you're on a desktop you can probably install the SDD in addition to your existing HDD and migrate OS X over to the new drive.
