How can I retrieve a deleted note?

My 93 year old Mom has lost her notes page which held all the books she wants to order. She doesn't think she deleted the note, but I can't think of any other way it could have disappeared. We tried syncing the iPad with the computer, it did not show up. Is there a way to retrieve items placed in the trash from the iPad Notes app?

You'd have to restore a back-up made prior to when you think the note was deleted.
