How can I remove the camera icon and grayed out area in the text message box?

How can I remove the camera icon and greyed our area in the text message box

This is the second time this has happened and then I cannot see or edit the message I am trying to write, and it keeps appearing in every text message I try to send.

Can you supply us with a screenshot of what you're seeing? The only thing I can think of is iMessage.... the camera icon is always going to be there next to the text edit box, and as far as I know it cannot be removed.
