How can I get my phone to install apps and app updates?

The problem is nothing will download not even updates. Apps and updates get stuck in the process and never complete. I tried downloading an album from iTunes and it says waiting. I've signed up with an account and am on a wifi network at home. Phone is an iPhone 5 with the latest software. Any help is appreciated thank you.

Also try rebooting your wifi modem/router.
