How can I get my iMac to stop freezing?

iMac freezes requires hard power down not ?restarting? after beta 10.10.3 install.

I?ll try not to get convoluted but hey I?m old & slow -patience is required. -_Q

Simply put: The app store shows 1 update available 10.10.3 (14D113c)

When update is applied ?Restart Required? will not go through the full cycle. Desktop folder icons do not appear nor does the top menu bar. BUT! the Start bar does appear & if an App say - Chrome - is started the top menu bar does appear along with the Apple icon. Close Chrome the Menu bar disappears.

Then a Hard Power Button shutdown & powered up? everything is as it should be, Desktop icons etc Menu bar etc EXCEP for ONE THING.

The App store shows 1 UPDATE available which is the same Beta build.

Now there are other things POSSIBLY playing a part. my Photo?s library Aperture & iPhoto?s are on an external HDD. Maybe put I don?t know.

OK I?ll stop now before I confuse you further. Any help would be appreciated.

The AppStore may be confused - if it's running, force quit it - and open it again - see if the update goes away.
