how can i create my own ringtones?

create your own ringtones

I'm new at this and played around last weekend figuring this out. This is how I created ringtones:

*Open iTunes (you can only use music you have purchased on iTunes)
*Select music/highlight song/right click/getinfo/options; choose start time & stop time.
*change the stop time to 0.40.000 Hit ok
*Select the edited song (with short playing time); right click/choose 'create AAC version'
*Choose the AAC version; Right click choose 'show in Win Explorer'.
If the name has a #1 in it - remove #1
*Select song/click on the tools folder/options/view
Uncheck 'hide extensions for known file types'. Hit apply.
*Select your song & change extension to .4r
click yes to dialog box
*In iTunes - select tones & then drag your selection from Win Explorer box to iPhone ringtones folder to the right of Library Panel in iTunes
*Now select your devise, chooose rintone tab, choose sync ringtones/selected ringtones; hit apply
*Check menu under your device. A ringtone folder is there-click it to see new custom tones.

After you've done this a couple times, its really easy. I hope this helps.

Note that the extension should be m4r.

After you've done this a couple times, its really easy.

It's a lot easier than listing out the instructions makes it seem.

If you own a Mac you can use garage band to cut any song into a ringtone then send it back to iTunes

I use this site. You can save them as m4r when you make them.
