So far I have been averaging about 75-80% battery left by 9pm, start using it around 7am. So about 14 hours.
After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.
I am seeing about this same performance. This is my first AW so I have nothing to compare to.

Is this for the GPS or LTE version?
Im not seeing anywhere near this performance on the LTE version. I took my watch off the charger 2 1/2 hours ago and Im at 88%.
If its not any better tomorrow its going back and I’ll stick with my Gen 3 GPS which got me 3+ days of battery life.
Mine is GPS only and off the charger for 6.5 hours so far and at 86% including a 30 minute exercise session.
Thats what I was afraid of. I logged 38 minutes of exercise and Im at 87% now after 3 hours. So Im getting less than half of what the GPS only version gets which is what my gen 3 gets.
This LTE version is too much of a battery hog I think.

I have the LTE version & my battery has turned out to be great. The first week or so was terrible but since then it has been wonderful. Right now my usage is at 1hr 19 minutes; standby 9hr 19min with 73% left. I have to say, I pretty happy with this![]()
Seems like Im right on par with you. My usage is 1 hour 39 minutes and standby 8 hours and 54 minutes and Im at 78%.
It seems to have stopped draining so fast around the 84% mark. Definitely not as good as the GPS only but it looks like 2 days will be achievable. We’ll see over the next few days.
I think 2 days is doable. This is my first Apple Watch, so I have nothing to compare it to. It does seem like the battery gets better and better with use.
I'm not sure I can really compare well; while my Series 4 does not last as well as my Series 3, my Series 4 is LTE and the 3 was only GPS -- so you'd expect some extra battery use. However, as someone who uses the watch for sleep tracking, when I put the phone on the charger at night (about 2 hours before I go to bed) it is down about 35% now -- my Series 3 would be around 50%.
Considering time and software updates I hope it is better.
My Series 2 has gone whacko with 5 days of AppleCare left and a very achievable 365 days of closing the rings so I might buy a Series 4 before handing the 2 over for the repair or swap. LTE is very tempting.
My usage always has a lot of exercise time because my work is sitting at a computer. I have to make up for it with lots of small or at times big rounds of exercise to meet my move goals.
I do get a lot of calls with my work so I'd love to know a Series 4 with LTE and AirPods can handle some calls and exercise. Bike rides and commuting by bike had my 2018 at average 68 min of exercise a day if that helps judge LTE watch battery life.
Thanks for any input.
Have any of you turned off the wake on wrist raise? If so, does that help extend battery life?
