Hey,
I have a 3G which I upgraded to ios 4 the other day.
I also installed the new redns0w jailbreak.

But after a day or so of use, I realise that ios4 is terrible beyond words. (painful slow and laggy to do anything, gets worse as the day goes on. constantly rebooting)

So what do I need to do to revert back to 3.1.3?

I know I can download the image, and shift click restore.
But do I need to first remove the jailbreak?
if so, how do I do that?

Or can I simply restore the 3.1.3 image, and that will remove the jailbreak too?

shift clicked restore in itunes, selected the ipsw file.
after about 5 minutes I get a 1015 error in itunes.

tried a couple of times now, and still get the same error.
and my iphone is completely not working at all now.

help please anyone?

Thankyou silkshocker, thats been really insightful. You win the award for the most useless, unhelpful, and unfriendly post.
Do me a favour, and dont bother replying again, Im sure this forum will be better off without your negativity.

Btw, 4.0 on a 3G ain't work it because you don't have enough memory and thus where the lag and sluggish response comes in. We get everything already being jb, so I don't see the need to upgrade imo.

Well I successfully managed to restore ios4 so I got my iphone working again.
I think maybe its an issue with minimum baseband maybe, not compatible with 3.1.2?!
I might try a restore to 3.1.3, see if that works.

If not, then I guess Im stuck with ios 4.

Update:
No luck, restoring to 3.1.3 resulted in the same (1015) error.

Guess Im stuck with ios 4. :(

The 1015 error I think relates to the version of iTunes. Try running an older version of iTunes for that restore.

The reason to upgrade for me, everyone will be different is because I want Folders, the ability to turn off my cellular data which is absolutely necessary for me and to edit my playlists. I know I can do all of that in JB apps but I don't want them I want Apples implimentation I stay very light with my JB needs. I love 4.0 w/ the JB I have my cake and eat it too just a little lag ah well not like the 3G was that fast anyway.

OP if you end up deciding to stay on 4 are you JBen? did you enable multitasking? I'm on 4 JBen on my 3G but didn't turn on multitasking in the JB and it's got a little lag going into folders but everything else is just like before. So maybe you have to redo 4 and your JB?

Well I tried reverting to itunes 9.1 late last night, but still got the same (1015) error.
So I went back to itunes 9.2, and restored ios 4.0. havent installed JB.

Interestingly today, so far my phone hasnt been so slow or laggy.
Maybe it was the JB, cant remember if I enabled multitasking.

very well said, however, i do utilize the multitasking feature and love it. it seems just as fast as any JB'n app if not better. agreed on staying light with the JB needs

my situation is looking grim in regards to getting the new device anytime soon, so this will get me by until my upgrade is available

Yeah I can see how the multi would be so good I feel it everyday when I'm wondering why I don't have it yet on my iPad but I'm willing to wait till I get the i4 for me it's not that big of a deal.

1015 error solution

The site lifehacker.com/5572003/how-to-downgrade-your-iphone-3g%5Bs%5D-from-ios-4-to-ios-313 has some good explanations.

The article mentions your 1015 error and that you can run RecBoot to get past the error.

Good Luck

iRecovery would get ya past that. I would have put this response in sooner, but your response earlier was so nice i thought id let you stew some.

Gonna tell me to get out of your thread also now?
