This is what he needs:

I’m looking for an audiobook playing for my iPad. I would like to upload my own files and it seems that you have to use their library of books, which I seriously doubt would have the books I have (French Language). If it could sync between devices, that would be cool too.

It's not free, it's 3.99 after a 5 book trial, BUT this programs LOOKS like it handles online sources as WELL as many of your own sources....

Won't be much French, BUT if your local Library supports them, Hoopla and Overdrive are both great sources of audio books that you "borrow" from the library. I use them both regularly.
