Help me retrieve photos please

My husband asked me to help him tweak his iPad a bit.
I turned on automatic back up to icloud. That went fine.

But he had over 3000 pics backed up to itunes and I turned on back up for pics... It erased most of them and only kept 86.
I havent told him yet, he's going to be furious.

Please tell me there's a way to get those back...

If he backed the iPad up to iTunes, the photos should be backed up there.... a restore from that backup might do it.

Yup I would do a restore from iTunes.
