Headphones sounded funny for a second

So I have these really good headphone ear buds made by klips and they sound great but for the first time tonight I plugged them into my iPhone to listen to music and the music sounded like it was coming from a background and sounded dull. I unplugged them and put them back in and everything works and sounds great. Any ideas maybe? It's never happened before

Dirt in the jack. Bad first connection.

And when u plugged the headphones in it sounded like the connection was poor even though they were all the way plugged in?

This has happened to me with other phones and ear buds. Now when my earbuds (earphones) are not in use I put them back in the case to avoid dirt and other stuff

So it's not the iPhone jack that caused it most likely right? It's the headphones probably your saying?
