Hate The 100mb Download Limit

Can someone explain the logic to me behind the 100mb Download limit for apps on the store? I think it's ridiculous. If I want to download over 100mb on my phone data it should be able to be my choice. Especially considering I have limited WiFi. Guess it's another thing I love more about android than ios

You actually take responsibility for your actions, whereas others will blame Apple for every for theirs. More people than not have very limited data plans, and by putting a cap on the download size can shield Apple from blame if a kid ended up causing his or her parents to have to pay a huge cell bill due to having exceeded the data plan limit. That's my personal opinion, and not an official Apple statement, by the way...

So then why not have a switch on the phone that you can turn on and off on whether you want the limit or not. It's ridiculous that you aren't even given a choice. I only get 25gb data a month on my WiFi and 10gb per data a month on my phone so I have to combine them BOTH to somehow get even a reasonable data allowance for the month. This restriction is nonsense

Again if that Android feature works well for a user use Android. I can understand not being satisfied with certain features on a platform but a user has to weigh their pros and cons when choosing a platform.

Actually I have both an iPhone six plus and a Samsung galaxy s6 but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to say negative things about ios and only positive

It's called not being allowed a landline where I live. I actually pay a ridiculous $160 a month for my measly 25gb of WiFi cause its mobile broadband so quit with the sarcasm

Nobody said you couldn't complain. But no one here can do anything to change it. All we can do is try to explain the reasoning behind the decisions. as we understand them. And you are stuck making a choice between whatever options are available to you.

You could also provide feedback to Apple (Apple - iPhone - Feedback) and your wireless service provider.

No limit on WiFi. Just cellular. Use WiFi for downloads.

That 25gb limit IS for my WiFi. I get a limit of only 25gb per month on my WiFi

Apple doesn't limit you to 100 mb of wifi per download. It's only cellular. So you have 25 gb of wifi to use for, among other things, downloading apps. My Wife and I average about 14 gb of wifi per month. I download apps all the time.

I'm not an expert on this mind you, but I'm thinking it's because of what Widow mentioned above,  and their agreements with providers. Most likely they all requested some sort of limit, and  provided it to them. I doubt they would impose it otherwise.

All companies try to limit usage of mobile data. Even on Android the phone warns you when the data download is going to be too high, the Google Play store even offers an option of only updating apps when on WiFi. In fact with the Amazon App store you have to go into the settings to change the limits.

Now I understand the issue here is maybe that you don't have an option to change that limit in iOS. But the way you make it sound like it's only Apple who considers mobile data downloads a risk, but it's not. So in this case find out if you can change the limit imposed from Apple and you might just get a solution.

Also just check if the App store is not the one where you need to change download limit settings on. I've just never tried to do I have no idea.

By the way I also have both Android and iOS devices. So I'm not talking from a position of a fanboy who's just talking Apple's side.

25 gb of wifi is not much. Who only gives they much? Maybe you should get after them, rather than Apple. How many apps over 100 mb do you need to download? I'd stay away from the huge apps.

For WiFi 25gb is nothing, I got 150gb and that's an average WiFi plan.

I know this is a few days old but a work around that I found was to hit download, get the "Only on Wi-Fi" pop-up, hit ok. Go to home screen and make sure it says waiting. Turn phone off, wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Boom, now downloading. I'm on 9.0.1, so it at least works as of that release.

On 9.2 just confirmed heat this also works, but after the restart I had to tap on the app. Then it starts downloading, no WiFi required!

FYI it was the Fallout Shelter app. 835 MB all downloaded via cellular data.
