Grainy photos

I went to my sisters surprise birthday party today. I took several photos with my 8 plus. To my dismay, when I zoom in on the photos, most are incredibly grainy.
Is it a software issue, or is it the phone itself? Am I the only one that has noticed this? Thanks all.

I have not noticed this on my 8 Plus. If you're near an Apple Store, you might stop by and have them take a look. They have several workshops pertaining to Photography, so hopefully, someone there can help you.

Are you using a case that covers the camera lens?

Grainy photos is a result of low light environment.
Was this the case when you took those photos?

Could be as simple as a greasy fingerprint on the camera lens.

Usually it's low light or zoomed in past the optical zoom. The digital zoom on iOS has a very bad tendency to make photos grainy.

Ongoing issue since the 7 series / ios 10... Sometimes grainy, sometimes a washed out (watercoloured effect)

Yes thanks, the lighting in the room wasn’t the best.

I have the Otterbox case, the camera though is not blocked.
