Mine is not JB'd. Intermittent loss of signal when not navigating. Very good when navigating. I think it is a lot to expect a little phone to do. It is pretty good, but not perfect. I don't think one can expect it to perform as well as a standalone nav unit that has a better antenna and superior Sirf III chipset. But, perhaps the AT & T units work better?

I don't. I expect it to perform as well as other smartphones I've owned. It doesn't.

My 3GS RARELY had signal issues. My HTC Hero, Evo, Motorola Droid X ALL outperformed this phone.

Yes I expect more. I've had the Navigon on an AT&T iphone 4 that was JB and it worked without a single flaw. So it's either the 4.3.6 that's doing it or its specific to all Verizon iPhones. Some phone came shipped with 4.3.5 and I wonder if there was anyone who didn't update if they are having problems. Point being, its a real issue and I wish Apple, Verizon and perhaps Navigon could look into it.

OK, the last few posts are revealing. I'll bet it is the phone and the built in GPS chip. One can hope that a firmware upgrade will help, but somehow, I doubt it.

I didn't think that any of the smartphones use a true gps signal from the satellites, but rather they use the theory of triangulation from the cell phone towers to acquire the position. Maybe someone can clarify this.

You are incorrect. They have actual GPS chips in them. Programs like Navigon and Magellan store the maps on the device themselves, and you do not even need a connection to the network to get those to work. They do use aGPS as an extra benefit to get a lock on a satellite more quickly.

I got the TomTom app and it seems to perform better than the Navigon. Plus it was on sale so, at least I know it's not a GPS issue with the phone.
