Okay, so my wife and I (and our iPhones) will be going to London in September.

Rather than pay the AT&T crazy high rates for international phone/text/data, I was wondering if there is an option for purchasing a pay per use sim while there.

Yes, I know I would need to jailbreak/unlock our iPhones to do this.

Anyone know of any options? Costs?

Thanks!

Oh yes, ideally we will want to use our phones to call back home (USA), so just getting UK phone calls is not what we are looking for.

Just get your iPhone unlocked, then check out O2 | The UK's Leading Provider of Mobile Phones, Broadband & SIMs, Mobile Phones | Broadband & Mobile Broadband UK Deals | Free Web Email | Orange.co.uk, Vodafone - Mobile Phones, Mobile Internet, Broadband & Email, or Mobile phones, Mobile Broadband & SIMs from Three (I think). You will be able to purchase sim card only, but unless its a special iPhone tariff then you would need to watch in case you get charged for data, or turn data off in the settings (if it's on iOS4).

Ahh, to have the choice of different competent GSM providers... I have also noticed that the cost of service is much cheaper over there. Where is our own FCC... Ah yes they're too busy being told what to do by AT&T and Verizon.
