I was surprised by that 80% of revenue claim in 2022, so I looked it up (checking both revenue and profit by category). It is basically correct about the revenue. Ad Revenue is 79% using the latest quarter. But 95% of profit is wrong. Ads is 116% of profit.
Latest quarter revenue total: 69 Billion
Ads: 54.5 Billion (79%)
Cloud: 7 Billion (10%)
Other: 7.5 Billion (11%)
Total Quarter Profit: 14 Billion.
Ads: 16.3 billion (116%)
cloud: loss of 645 million (-4%)
“other”: loss of 1.6 billion. (-12%)
But it is worth noting that “other” includes hardware such as Pixel Phones. Google, it is reported, takes a loss on some of the hardware sales but the hardware in the hand of user generates added data points to be recorded. This will increase, to some degree, increase ad revenue over the phone’s lifetime.
Interesting point: Same Quarter in 2021. 65 billion in revenue but 19 billion in profit. Damn! blowout 2021 quarter but Google ads profit is seriously! down Year over Year.
