I just had my fee waived yesterday. No muss, no fuss.
Same here. Got two of them waived due to the FAN account.

Live chatting with AT&T right now and they're giving me the hardest time about the $80 in upgrade fees...I have 5 lines and pay $250 a month for service.
They've never given me such a hard time before.
Any update?
The $30 verizon fee really ticked me off. What does it cover? I upgraded two iphones so expected to pay $60. I have been a verizon customer for a billion years--it almost made me cancel the order entirely, but then decided I would get the phone, make sure I am happy with the size and then call them and beg for mercy.
Maybe you just got the wrong rep. You can always hang up, then call back and get a different rep who may be more willing!
