Anyone experiencing a slow down in performance since the update to OS X Mavericks?

It seems to me that the slowness is very selective. Only with certain applications am I having trouble. Other apps continue to work fine, if not faster than before. Biggest problem is with the mail app, but others can be a bit laggy at times.

Of course, I suppose it is time to update my MBP, but dropping close to 2k to fix the problem seems like a hefty price to pay!

A general slow down? No. Slowness here and there on occasion with a couple of app? Yes, but it's not to the level of being a nuisance.
