Gelaskin vs Invisible Shield

I was just wondering which you think is better overall. My other question is can you put a gelaskin on top of invisible shield?

The two are kind of geared towards different purposes...the gel skin is more of a protective element against damage from dropping the phone (or other impacts that would damage it), the invisible shield is more of a scratch deterrent to keep the cosmetic side of the phone in mint condition during regular use and abuse...

For instance, i have invisible shield on my macbook pro (outer body and track pad/palm rest area), basically just to prevent staining of the body and any kind of scratches...i also have an incase shell on it to prevent the aluminum unibody from getting dents in it (which they are very prone to doing)...both work in conjunction to retain the computers mint "new" look. Same goes for the iPhone...

Both can be used at the same time...but between the two, for protection, the gel skin will offer a more legitimate security.

I have a Gelaskin on my MacBook. I have in the past used the Zagg skins (you're talking about the pretty ones for the back, right?) on my iPhones. They are both very close, and both allow you to do custom designs. Quality is excellent with both.

Now if you're talking screen protection.....

"Better" is one of those highly subjective words. You need to not just ask "what" but "why" as well since any person's criteria for what they consider to be best may be entirely different from yours. Understanding why a person thinks something is best is important so you can evaluate your needs/wants against that person's opinion.

For example, a common criticism of the IS is its texture, described as orange peel by many. It's also a tacky texture. Some people can't stand this. Others don't care. I fell into the latter category but if I simply posted "IS is best" that wouldn't tell you what you needed to know. Maybe you do care about orange peel, texture or the liquid application process.

I have actually used both. Gelaskins are smoother and a bit easier (no liquid) to apply IMO though I have a lot of experience applying skins and screen protectors. Both seem to be very durable. It's a bit easier to reapply/transfer the Gelaskin if that matters to you. The IS is basically impossible to reapply/transfer as it will stretch when you remove it. I didn't have the Gealskin on long enough to evaluate this aspect but the IS will eventually begin to accumulate dirt and such at the edges and will begin to peel. This typically happened to me over a period of 1-2 years but Zagg would always replace them under warranty for me.

There's quite a bit of subjective preference involved.

You could apply one over the other but it really wouldn't provide any added benefit IMO and it would be difficult to do so well. The double layer of protection just wouldn't look good IMO and could potentially interfere with some buttons.

I generally don't bother with body protection these days. I have only been using screen protectors (SGP or Power Support) recently. I've also changed my mind after using SGP and Power Support and prefer screen protection that feels as close to bare glass as possible. The tack of the IS would drive me nuts these days.

Neither of these will offer any impact protection. You need a case designed for impact protection. No skin (they're basically like stickers) will protect any device from impact.

Now I see why you're mistaken. Visit the Gelaskin site. Gelaskins are not gel. Be careful running with assumptions, especially with handy tools like Google.

...and I forgot that Zagg now offers printed IS's. My response above covers my experience with the original (clear) IS, not the newer printed options.

Same basic process though. There's subjective preference involved in selecting screen protection as well. Some are very happy with the IS screen protectors. Some are not. Each shopper needs to determine where his/her preferences lie.
