I know Macs aren't much to play games on, but what are a few games for family members that do play card games

There are actually tons of games for Macs. They don't really ship with the hardware to run big budget games but there's tons of Indie stuff available. I play most of my games on my Mac.

Check out the games category on the OS X App Store. For a specific recommendation, Full Deck Solitaire is good.
