I just polished my silver X. Here are the before and after shots.
Granted it won't get everything out but it does a halfway decent job. I could have gotten it better with a microfiber cloth and some better metal polish.
All this took was about ten minutes with an old t shirt and some Brasso used very sparingly. Followed by a rinse in the sink. Use Brasso in accordance with the directions and I'd recommend gloves and a well ventilated space.
