Find Friends on Apple Watch

I assumed it would be there. It's a perfect use case for the Apple Watch. There's a dedicated Friends button to tap. Wouldn't it be so handy to check your friend's location and distance on your wrist? Apple says No. At least not yet. Asking Siri where my wife is just tells me to handover to my iPhone.

I believe this is a killer feature lacking from the current release.

Why? Its the same feature as Find Friends on the iPhone and iPad. I can already do this on the phone but I want to do it using my wrist when my hands are busy looking after my daughter

That's why it is an app that you would have to install and allow tracking. No one says you have to use it, I agree it would be a good feature for those who do use it.

I'll concur. My wife and I use it quite often. She finds it pretty helpful to be able to keep an eye on me when I'm out running, and we don't have to pay $$ to mapmyrun or other services for live tracking.

Also remember that the person has to agree to it. So they can't randomly track you. It's not creepy if you let someone follow you.

I personally would love it. Me and my wife use it so I can see where she is on the train so we can leave on time to pick her up (and vice versa).

It could show you where friends are on a night out and then give you directions to them.

I guess someday they will update Find My Friends to be Apple Watch ready, but this really should be native to the social button. For such a big button it does surprisingly little.

Sounds creepy if you are not familiar with it. It is opt-in only. You can't just randomly start tracking people. Me, my wife and teenagers use it all of the time- incredibly useful for families. I had hoped it would be better integrated into the watch.

most of you are silly, one, its a choice, two you can follow some in the family, but they have a choice to join on,

I can tell most of you do not have Senior parents, everyone in my family is following me, (i have nothing to hide) and all 3 grandkids (16-21 allow me to follow) My daughter told teenagers , I pay the bill, you will follow,

I want my kids to keep track of the old man. just common sense, and perhaps a life saver for me.

Even my son in CA, can tell where I am.

and if your a parent with younger kids, even drivers age, why would you not want to keep in touch for safety reasons.

Now back to my original question. Does anyone know if it will work iwatch , if not we should petition apple for next software version.

As of 7/3. I have talked to Apple. At present Find Friends is not available on iwatch 2. At there seems to be no real demand for them to develop it for os 3. So that pretty much does it. Apparently quite a few question its use. Which means Apple has not done a good job of marketing the app correctly. And too many parents are concerned about kids complaining of "spying"

The safety feature has not been promoted. Another app out there that we use, since we have grandkids in college, is the app, developed by college team, so a user can notify a roommate, or friend or parent when she is leaving a "place" and they can actually follow their path home. wow. neat. shame thats way the world is, that we "need" these features. but thats the way it is. Hide your heads in the sand. and wake up someday to something you dont want to hear. Push for this app on iwatch 03

There is no iWatch. It's called an Apple Watch. Or Watch.

You can set up your watch to require a passcode if removed from wrist.
I did that.
There is no additional security for the app itself, same as on your iPhone.

Like @tartarus, my watch locks when I remove it. I can either put in the 4 digit code, or unlock my phone (there's a setting in there) which would unlock the watch.

And those people would be uninformed and ridiculous. This is absolutely an opt-in feature. Always has been. It's not like on TV where somebody just starts tracking you. Once opted-in, you can opt-out/turn it off whenever you want, and "go-dark-off-the-grid". LOL!!

The whole purpose of Find My Friends is to let other friends know where you are, not to broadcast your location to anybody who cared to look.

This is a killer feature for the Watch. It would be handy at the beach, Disneyland, and any number of places. Doesn't the SOS feature in wOS db3 send your location to a friend(s) after dialing the Emergency number (911, 999, etc)?

IIRC, a friend, in opting-in, can set a window of 'availability' which would expire, leaving their whereabouts a mystery, limited to 'last known location'. It's really not like Person of Interest.
