Factory unlocked IMEI serial number, are they different?

I purchased an unlocked IP5 at the Apple store and I wanted to check if it was really unlocked. The receipt says "GSM" model: MD295LL/A

I'm moving to Europe and I need to make sure before I leave the U.S.

I've got the same model and I'm using it on T-Mobile with no issues. I bought mine directly from the Apple store.

I'm not sure what you're asking or if the subject does not match your question, but if you want to know your IMEI number go to settings --> about, there you'll find it and also you'll see your model. The IMEI (which you can use to see your iPhone lock status) and model No. are two different things.

I've bought both an unlocked and a locked iPhone 5. The only noticible difference between the two was that the unlocked phone came with a sim card removal tool in the booklet under the plastic tray.

I also believe that iTunes gave me the your-iphone-has-been-unlocked message when I upgraded to 6.1.
