FaceID and closed eyes...

I found something interesting about FaceID, it will not recognize you if you have your eyes closed. I tested this multiple times. I closed my eyes with the phone not pointing at me, pressed the power button to wake it, pointed the phone at my face and then moved the phone away from my face and it was not unlocked when I looked with the phone pointing off somewhere else.

Do you get what I'm saying?

I was under the impression that it always needed to be able to detect your eyes.

I thought it was based only upon facial geometries but with the fact that it needs your eyes open for it to recognize you, that adds to the security of the device. If you ever find yourself in a situation, say with law enforcement and they're trying to get you to unlock your phone without your cooperation all you need to do is just close your eyes and keep them closed.

I’ll go one step further.

Face ID is also working for me while wearing a hat AND sunglasses. It will also not unlock unless I’m looking at the screen with shades on.

How scary is that?

Expected behavior lol. There are some crazy videos from when the X first came out and that was two generations of Face ID ago, I’m sure it’s gotten even more accurate.

The time is coming when we’ll just think “Hey Siri, send an email” and we’ll hear DING - who would you like to send it to?

Yea, this is all normal stuff from when FaceID was introduced two years ago. There are settings you can change to not require your looking at the device to unlock.

I sometimes use these breathe easy nasal dilators during the night, and they lift the sides of my nose VERY slightly (from inside) - actually I don't even see this when looking into the mirror.
Guess what, face ID disapproves!
It's almost scary, how accurate and how sophisticated this technology is.
