Facebook wants you to have a dozen dozen friends. The more you have, the more $$ they rake in. It's why you see "Someone You may know" so much. I see that page when I go to the Pages and Public Figures. But not newsfeed. Add a couple friends!?

You won't see much on your timeline with just a dozen friends. Especially if they don't share much. Adding friends that share a lot helps. You can also use your timeline like a newsfeed for what interests you by liking pages of news channels/magazines, musicians, sports teams, etc.
