Facebook in background

So I noticed as few other have, that Facebook app seems to be consuming battery in the background. And for example I have used it for 5 minutes but battery section shows background activity for 50 minutes? Even turning background permission off doesn't change it. Any take on in this subject?

When I first installed iOS 9, it would consume large amounts of background usage. Now it has mellowed out and I have seen very little.

Downloaded third party app and it does the same. Minimal usage but background usage quadruple.

Could it be that they collect some user data on background which would explain it? Moved to browser Facebook, works just as well and it doesn't do anything on the background.
