Hi I recently saw the article on SSD’s posted on this site that was posted (I think) in June 2019.

It seemed great that through the files app I would be able to see & interact with a SSD.

I’ve just bought a Samsung T5 SSD (very compact) in the hope that it would work with my iPad. But I cannot see the SSD.

Works fine on the MBP.

Any ideas?

Hi

Thanks for this, indeed this is the article that I read. The problem is that when you press ‘Browse’ the Samsung T5 SSD doesn’t appear in the files app ‘On my iPad’ section.

My iPad uses a lightning connector, does it pass enough power to the SSD?

Unless there’s a short somewhere, I agree that it may not be putting out enough power for your SSD.

I believe there are powered adapters available that can supply the necessary power to run external devices on an iPad. I’ve seen them on Amazon. You may wish to search there. I tried running an external HDD on my iPad using a standard non powered USB to lightning adapter and, of course, it didn’t work. The iPad can’t supply enough power. However, I can use thumb drives with my device because they use very little power.
