Easily mute microphone using Activator or something?

I'm on a lot of conference calls and I need to frequently mute and unmute my microphone while on calls. To add to the frustration, when my iPhone (5s) goes to sleep, I have to unlock it to get access to the software mute/unmute button in the Phone app.

Is there a hardware way of doing this, either using an Activator method, or swiping on the screen or the Bluetooth action button?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no hardware mute switch for the mic on in-progress calls. As for bluetooth action button, I suppose if the bluetooth headset had an option for it, it should work, but my Jawbone Icon does not have that capability so I cannot test it for you. Sorry.
